Board Member Honored at Annual Meeting of the YWCA's
National Capital Area Chapter
Lorraine T. James, MWPHA Board member, was honored during the
YWCA of the National Capital Area's Annual Meeting on October
22nd with an Inaugural Leadership and Service Award. The Award
was presented in recognition of her efforts to help educate, motivate
and empower women and families.
The Fifth Conference on the Scientific Basis of Health Services
will be hosted by the AHRQ and Academy Health, September 20-23,
2003, in Washington, DC.
The 2003 conference is organized around the following five themes:
National Strategies for Organizing Health Services Research; Using
Evidence to Improve Clinical Practice; Using Evidence to Improve
Health Services Management; Using Evidence to Improve Policymaking;
Using Evidence to Alleviate the Burden of Specific Diseases. Visit

The Robert Woods Johnson Foundation (RWJF) announces a grants
program to establish and evaluate innovative approaches that support
active living. Its purpose is to promote changes in local community
design, transportation and architecture that make it easy for
people to be physically active. Grants of up to $ 200,000 total
over five years will be awarded to 25 interdisciplinary, community-oriented
partnerships. The proposal deadline is January 31, 2003. For more
